Gnosis DAO Community Summary ~ August 2026

The monthly newsletter of the Gnosis Ecosystem. GIPs, Snapshot votes, forum debates, GNO tokenomics, and ecosystem moves. Written for holders, delegates, and partners. Issue #5.
At a glance
- GIP-153 passed on 19 August, 123,158 for to 115 against from 54 voters: Gnosis Chain will transition from a standalone L1 into the first ZK-proven Ethereum Economic Zone rollup. Genesis is targeted for the turn of the year.
- GIP-152 passed on 13 August, 105,103 to 3,353 from 49 voters: the Gnosis App spins out into an independent company.
- GIP-154 passed on 27 August, 104,172 for from 44 voters: Gnosis Ltd is funded with $15m in stablecoins for 12 months from 1 September, disbursed quarterly, plus the $2m repayable working capital loan for Gnosis Pay.
- Gnosis Chain processed roughly 10.8m transactions in August, up 7.3% on July's 10.1m, while fees fell 18.5% to around 7,800 xDAI.
- Gnosis Pay recorded 180,432 payments in August, down 4.4% from July's 188,768, with volume essentially flat at $8.30m. Rebind added CHF support on Pay rails alongside EUR and USD.
- GnosisScan to Blockscout cutover on 11 August went through cleanly, and GNO cashback on the old Gnosis Pay app ends on 30 September.
🦉 Forming Up on the Forum
Three questions the forum spent July arguing about all went to Snapshot in August. All three passed.
Should Gnosis Chain transition into the Ethereum Economic Zone? Yes. GIP-153 went to Phase 3 on 13 August and passed on the 19th: 123,158 for, 115 against, 151 abstaining, on turnout of 123,425 against a 75,000 quorum. Gnosis Chain becomes the first EEZ instance: a contract on Gnosis Chain will be able to call a mainnet contract and use the result inside the same atomic transaction, which no existing L2 offers.
Should the Gnosis App spin out into its own company? Yes. GIP-152 passed on 13 August: 105,103 for, 3,353 against, 52 abstaining, from 49 voters. The terms moved substantially from the July draft after community pushback: $1.5m cash from the DAO plus product and IP valued at $1m, forming a $2.5m SAFE at a $10m post-money cap (down from the original $15m), with a minimum 25% DAO stake and no vesting on the DAO's position. The aftermath was not entirely smooth: some Circles backers disputed the process, and one community member published tooling to unback Circles in protest.
Should the DAO fund Gnosis Ltd with $15m a year? Yes. GIP-154 went to Snapshot on 20 August and closed on the 27th: 104,172 for, 1.4 against, from 44 voters. Gnosis Ltd is funded at half of last year's GIP-128 ask for 12 months from 1 September, disbursed quarterly, covering three pillars: Gnosis Pay, the Gnosis Chain transition into the EEZ, and a deliberately small Circles allocation. The separate $2m working capital loan for Gnosis Pay is purpose-restricted and repayable to the DAO, so the treasury retains a claim rather than booking a grant.
Should the DAO fund a social B2C platform? The one major question still open. GIP-155, from Vaciati, proposes physical interactive frames in public locations with web3 onboarding via account abstraction and passkeys.

- Pipes: encrypted coordination infrastructure for Safe signers, 6 posts. An operator-blind messaging layer that rotates with on-chain signer sets, with a $25,000 security review contingent on passing. The open UX question is notification latency for signers managing multiple DAOs.
- GNO-Backed Credit for the Gnosis Treasury, filed 26 August, pre-GIP. The DAO would lend stablecoins to GNO holders on fixed-term, overcollateralised terms: the most structurally novel treasury mechanism the forum has seen, with the collateral-crash risk model as the obvious first question.
- Circling Back: Circles, Commitment Pools, and Cosmo-Local Credit on Gnosis, 13 posts. Grassroots Economics Foundation (founder Will Ruddick and director Njambi Njoroge, building community currencies in Kenya) exploring whether the Sarafu system and Circles could converge on Gnosis Chain.
🔐 What the EEZ yes-vote means for validators.
Gnosis Chain ended August with roughly 35,800 active validators, down from about 52,000 at the start of the month, while staked GNO held steady near 298,000.
GIP-153 passing means proof-of-stake consensus as it exists today will not carry forward once the EEZ architecture is live. The staking mechanics under the new model are still unwritten, genesis is targeted for the turn of the year, and sequencer centralisation during the transition is the risk delegates flagged on the record. If you run validators or stake GNO, the GIP-153 thread and the development work landing across 2027 are the things to watch.
💬 Community
Ecosystem Sessions returned. The 13 August session in the Gnosis Discord featured OWN (own.casa) presenting onchain lending for fixed-rate, crypto-backed loans, plus a live GIP-153 walkthrough hours before the vote opened.
Lisbon firesides. Gnosis co-hosted two: Ethereum Scalability vs Fragmentation with EF Everywhere, and a session on building EU payments sovereignty with the EU Ethereum Institute, on why almost every European card transaction runs through American rails.
Explorer cutover. GnosisScan retired on 11 August and the domain now redirects to Blockscout. The migration went through cleanly, with essentially zero disruption reported. The block explorer remains at: https://gnosisscan.io/
Standout post. The Staworth delegate platform's GIP-153 rationale is the most substantive public delegate reasoning of the cycle: a vote for, with the validator-set trade-off named honestly.
