GnosisDAO Governance Summary ~ 20 March 2024

Much has transpired since the last governance update!

On Monday March 11, 2024 18:30 UTC the Dencun upgrade activated on the Gnosis Chain mainnet!

Dencun is a combination of two upgrades. Deneb, the name for Consensus Layer upgrade, and Cancun, the name of the Execution Layer upgrade. The upgrade implements Proto-Danksharding with EIP-4844, introducing transactions that can carry "blobs" of data for scaling L2 chains and reduces transaction fees. Blob-carrying transactions scale data-availability of Gnosis and Ethereum in a simple, forwards-compatible manner.

Ethereum performed the Dencun upgrade on March 13th, 2024. Gnosis proudly continues to contribute to extending Ethereum's growth.

Now that Dencun is live, blobs will scale Gnosis, a key development as Gnosis Pay continues to grow. That's not all - blobs have another use case! Arbitrary data can be stored onchain with blobs, such as memes :) Visit blob.fm to add your own!

We’re excited to announce the launch of Circle EURC.e and USDC.e on Gnosis Chain with the Bridged Circle Standard. Bridge in EURC.e via the Gnosis Omnibridge with liquidity live on Curve Finance! Using the Bridged Circle Standard allows Circle to take control of the contracts and turn the asset into a native asset in the circle ecosystem. GIP-93: Should GnosisDAO support the integration of Hashi within Gnosis Chain’s Canonical Bridges?

This proposal presents a detailed plan for allocating funds towards integrating the Hashi protocol into Gnosis Chain’s canonical bridges from Ethereum, namely the xDAI Bridge and the AMB (on which the OmniBridge is built). The initiative emphasizes significantly enhancing the security and decentralization of these bridges. The integration aims to introduce advanced security measures, mitigate systemic risks, and ensure the Gnosis Chain ecosystem remains resilient against the evolving landscape of security threats. By fortifying the infrastructure with Hashi, we seek to establish a new standard for security and reliability in cross-chain transactions.

Hashi is an additive security framework, currently supporting 15+ General Message Passing bridges and ZK light clients. With its integration on Gnosis bridges we remove any reliance on one specific bridging mechanism and add the ability to define threshold based bridging (only when 2 of 3 bridges agree a bridge transaction is accepted) along with zero vendor lock-in capabilities by allowing easy replacement of any bridging mechanisms in the future.

This integration will make Gnosis Chain the only L1 with such strong bridge security guarantees. We anticipate that this effort will foster greater user confidence and will have a big positive impact on the Gnosis ecosystem.
